Bio

Dr. Tulebaev joined the division in September 2013. He has developed a geriatric co-management service with the Trauma, Burn, and Surgical Critical Care Service and has been seeing patients since October 2013.

The geriatric co-management program has resulted in a clinically meaningful reduction in ICU readmissions, in-hospital mortality, and 30-day mortality among geriatric trauma patients. The program has been greeted with great enthusiasm. Dr. Tulebaev won a Partners Innovation and Leadership Award in 2015. This program was developed and further formalized into the Frailty Identification and Care Pathway collaboration with the Division of Trauma, Burn, and Surgical Critical Care as well as the Department of Nursing. This pilot program was successfully implemented on general surgery units and the Surgical ICU.

The frailty pathway is unique in terms of active geriatric co-management in ICU setting. Dr. Tulebaev is actively collaborating on research projects with the Department of Neurosurgery to introduce continuous monitoring of sleep and psychomotor agitation in frail older adults and with the Department of Anesthesiology to introduce AI assisted voice technology to monitor postoperative pain in older adults.

Dr. Tulebaev was recently appointed as a member of the Ethics Committee at BWH. He is committed to advancing the field of geriatric medicine by teaching residents and medical students, and developing curricula to reach current and potential geriatricians around the world.

He is interested in the application of technology and ambient intelligence in geriatric medicine. By encouraging the collaboration of clinicians and engineers, he hopes to bring tools of continuous, ubiquitous, and non-invasive monitoring to the practice of geriatric medicine.
