Dr. Marc Christensen is a Spine Surgeon Specialist in the Department of Neurosurgery and an Instructor of Neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Christensen obtained his undergraduate degree (BA) in Geophysics from the University of Colorado Boulder. In 1993, he earned his MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center. He went on to earn his PhD in from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Cellular Neurobiology. His Ph.D. in biomedical sciences focuses on spinal cord injury and the molecular mechanisms involved in regeneration and rehabilitation. Dr. Christensen competed his Residency in Neurosurgery at SUNY Upstate Medical University. He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Neural Regeneration at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Dr. Christensen was a Stereotactic Neurosurgical Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital and later, a Complex Spine Fellow at the University of Buffalo Neurosurgery.
Dr. Christensen approaches neurosurgical spine care by merging updated and researched advanced technologies with what he knows to be effective treatment modalities in his hands. He is motivated by providing best-practice medicine and giving a well-informed purview of outcomes and expectations to his patients. To him, a thoroughly informed patient is of paramount importance.
Dr. Christensen’s clinical practice focuses on the surgical treatment of disorders of the spine. His interest is in image-guided and minimally invasive surgery. He also hopes to advance robotic surgery of the spine capabilities here at BWH.
