Dr. Shimizu is the director of PICC services, an acute care and trauma surgeon and a surgical intensivist in the Division of Trauma, Burn and Surgical Critical Care and Emergency General Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Prior to her current role, Dr. Shimizu was an associate surgeon in the Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California and her medical degree from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. She completed her general surgery residency and a surgical oncology research fellowship at the University of California. She completed an acute care and surgical critical care fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Shimizu’s work in the PICC program has included creating and implementing clinical protocols and superior standards of care. Her research interests focus on the clinical outcomes for trauma patients and is heavily involved with residency wellness and professional development programs.
